The value of Ireland’s land goes far beyond the monetary. Yet we must rely on the financial support of those who believe that its worth is intrinsic and that the diverse indigenous species who depend upon it deserve our protection and respect. We are a volunteer-led organization, and all funds raised go directly to our programs. Our Save a Sod campaign embodies our core belief: Land, animals, and humans are interconnected—the survival of one depends upon the others.
When you donate to Save a Sod we’ll send you a certificate to show our appreciation of your support.

About Green Sod Ireland
A decade ago Green Sod Ireland set out with an ambitious goal: to acquire land throughout Ireland, with the sole purpose of protecting it from destruction and create a safe haven for the diverse plant and animal species that inhabit it.
The fundamental need for biodiversity has become globally recognized, and we believe that local communities are coming to view land as more than a mere commodity. We are renewing Irish ecosystems for their own sake, and so they can thrive for present and future generations. GSI stimulates debate about improper land use, and promotes the benefits of bio-dynamic agriculture. Overdevelopment threatens to strip us of our own engagement with the natural world, and by holding these parcels in trust, all of its living organisms, both common and rare, are preserved.
In 2011, GSI won the Social Entrepreneurs Award, signalling a turning point in how we could collaborate with other stakeholders. We are part of a global shift in thinking, from an exclusively human-centered way of seeing and acting to a more earth-centered approach. Our commitment and creativity continue to flourish, and we are always growing new shoots.
